Nichelle Lasar is a Minneapolis based painter whose work focuses on the intersection of ecology and magic. Her work explores the sentience of non-human beings and their role in healing, ritual, and aesthetic experiences of nature. Her work is inspired by living in harmony with the seasons and celebrating the accessible wild. Meditation in her garden, long walks in local parks, and collecting sacred objects are part of her ideation process. She uses sketches, photos, and automatic drawings to reimagine local flora, fauna and the ethereal entities in between. Her paintings use lush natural palettes found in nature, and expressive lines and forms that give her work an animated quality. She holds a BFA in painting and printmaking from the University of WI in River Falls and an MA in art education from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. She is currently working on a series that celebrates her garden, dreaming of entities and iconography associated with this sacred place and how it has contributed to a healthier and more present way of life.
